Paralegal

Terms of Employment
- Permanent, full-time position (Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.);
- Option to work remotely two days per week;
- Start date: As soon as possible;
- Office located in Old Montreal, near Place-d’Armes metro station (Palais des congrès).
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary of $56,000, indexed to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) every January, with performance bonus program;
- Three weeks of paid vacation per year, plus paid office closure during the holiday season;
- Group insurance (life, prescription drugs, dental, health care, and telemedicine), partially covered by the employer.
Main Responsibilities
- Support lawyers in all stages of litigation, including court document preparation;
- Manage deadlines and file follow-ups, including calculating legal time limits following judgments, procedural protocols, and new filings;
- Prepare books of authorities and exhibits (table of contents, highlights, PDF formatting);
- Track case law cited in argument plans;
- Assist lawyers with evidence organization and databases;
- Assist in the preparation for examinations and depositions;
- Draft legal documents and simple pleadings or submissions using templates; prepare letters and other legal documents with professional formatting (including proofreading and submission via email and court e-filing);
- Communicate with clients and class members (e.g., claim administration, witness searches when needed);
- Submit and follow up on requests and invoices to the Class Action Assistance Fund;
- Conduct factual research and initial evidence analysis;
- Perform legal research;
- Review jurisprudence relevant to class actions;
- Update the firm’s website and the Class Action Registry (including content drafting);
- Draft and publish class member notices (including Facebook posts) and respond to comments;
- Open and close files in Juris Evolution software;
- Draft preliminary versions of judgments;
- Prepare or review statements of costs;
- Open or migrate files in SharePoint;
- Coordinate with bailiffs and court reporters;
- Print and bind legal documents;
- Perform data entry tasks.
Professional Qualifications
- Experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in a legal environment;
- Paralegal or legal assistant training is an asset;
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel);
- Excellent command of spoken and written French;
- Good spoken English;
- Written English is an asset.
