On May 2nd, 2019, the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed Best Buy’s application for leave to appeal. This decision confirms the judgment of the Quebec Court of Appeal authorizing a class action against Best Buy in this matter. It follows that the Superior Court of Quebec will hear the case opposing Union des consommateurs to Best Buy with regards to the extended warranties it sells to consumers.
The authorization of the class action means that the Union des consommateurs and its lawyers may represent all members of the group.
