    Anne-Isabelle Cloutier

Anne-Isabelle has served as a judicial law clerk at all levels of court in Canada and has a strong interest in complex litigation involving human rights, bioethics, and access to justice.

Before joining TJL in the fall of 2025, Anne-Isabelle clerked for the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. She previously held the same position with the Honourable Frédéric Bachand at the Quebec Court of Appeal and worked as a student at the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal. These experiences sharpened her strategic judgment and deepened her understanding of judicial decision-making, both at trial and on appeal. They also enhanced her versatility, enabling her to contribute effectively to files in all legal fields.

Anne-Isabelle brings a bijural and multidisciplinary perspective to her work. She holds degrees in civil and common law (B.C.L./J.D.) with a minor in Sociology, from McGill University. She also completed a Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Toronto, specializing in health law, bioethics, and public policy. Throughout her journey, she has been deeply committed to advancing the rights of vulnerable individuals. Her academic work, research, and community engagement have been recognized through several awards and distinctions. Her research interests include individual autonomy in contexts of social and material vulnerability; the ethics and legal regulation of medical assistance in dying and assisted reproduction; the protection of incapacitated persons subject to legal representation regimes; and the legal and access-to-justice issues arising from the interaction between class actions and the exclusive jurisdiction of certain administrative tribunals.

Outside of her professional work, Anne-Isabelle pursues her passion for photography and loves campervan travel. Always eager for a hike, she is just as happy on a dance floor. A karaoke fan (with talent inversely proportional to her boundless enthusiasm!) and champion of conviviality, she cherishes quality time with family and friends—be it around a microphone, a campfire, or a good meal.
