On October 3, 2023, the Immigrant Workers’ Centre, represented by Trudel Johnston & Lespérance, filed a new class action against an immigration and placement agency operating under the name « Trésor » and Newrest, a multinational corporation that provides catering and food services to over 30 airlines in Canada, including at Pierre-Elliot Trudeau International airport.
The class action seeks justice for hundreds of immigrant workers who have been victims of an illicit scheme put in place and exploited by the defendants, who incited them them work on the false promise of a valid work permit in Canada. By taking advantage of the vulnerability and the precarious migration status of class members, the defendants exploited their situation for profit, in violation of their fundamental human rights as protected by the Quebec Charter. The Centre is seeking moral and punitive damages for all members of the class.
